Okonomiyaki: Japanese pancake

By Yoshi, December 12, 2010

“Okonomiyaki” (おこのみやき, お好み焼き) is a Japanese pancake containing a variety of ingredients (meat, seafood etc). The name is derived from the word “okonomi”, meaning “what you like” or “what you want”, and “yaki” meaning “grilled” or “cooked”.
“Okonomiyaki” is mainly associated with the western regions, but nowadays we can eat it throughout Japan.

Many “okonomiyaki” shops have tables with hot plates, we can cook it by ourselves.
After order, a bowl like the following picture is served to us.

Mix all ingredients. Put oil and mixed ingredients on the plate.

Grill the both side.

After cooked, put sauce, mayonnaise, dried bonito flake, and green laver on it.
